SEED’s programming focuses on four key objectives: 1) the delivery of transformational, comprehensive MHPSS services including case management, mental health, and legal services, as well as psychosocial support activities; 2) strengthening the capacity of service providers through education, training, and capacity-building programs; 3) promoting policy and social change to strengthen the rights of, and protections for, vulnerable groups and individuals; and, 4) supporting the protection and recovery of survivors of trafficking, including through SEED’s shelter for victims of trafficking and those at risk, after care services, and prevention work to reduce the risk of trafficking through public awareness, technical assistance, and advocacy for legal, regulatory, policy, process, and institutional changes.

Role of the Community Mobilizer

The Community Mobilizer will work on Protecting and Empowering Survivors of Gender-Based Violence in Kurdistan Region of Iraq. Under this program, the Community Mobilizer will provide mobile services to adolescent girls and conduct community awareness events to strengthen the adolescent girl’s protection and empowerment in various locations throughout Erbil governorate. Under the supervision of SEED Girls Facilitator will work on attracting and selecting adolescent girls to attend online/face to face sessions according to the adolescents’ toolkit and other materials. The sessions are supposed to raise the awareness of adolescent girls about their rights, improve their leadership skills, life skills, and build self-care skills. The Mobilizer should be a compassionate, confident, diligent, trustworthy, and resourceful; experience-providing working with adolescent girls present in Erbil governorate. The Mobilizer must be willing and interested to work with people of different religious, ethnic, cultural, educational, and socio-economic backgrounds.

Specific Tasks

  • Work as part of a mobile team serving adolescent girls in Erbil governorate.
  • Mobilize and ensure regular participation of adolescent girls in the empowerment sessions
  • Participate in conducting assessments to identify the adolescent girls needs in all
    locations in Erbil governorate
  • Where appropriate, safe and as guided conduct awareness sessions with the parents and guardians of adolescent girls on the importance of participating in the program and obtain their consent
  • Assist Adolescent girls and their families in obtaining information, knowledge, and
    access to available relevant services through outreach activities, including providing information about SEED’s services and other available services.
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with clients, co-workers, and
    partner agencies, including documentation of community events.
  • Contribute to the development of program materials
  • Raise awareness amongst the community about GBV, personal safety and other topics, as requested by the supervisor.
  • Mobilize clients and community members into groups for participating in Program activities, as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Maintain confidentiality and privacy of clients at all times.
  • Draft activity report of every session held with the participants documenting challenges and lessons learned.
  • Perform other duties as necessary, as assigned by the supervisor.

Essential Criteria

  • Degree in law, social work, psychology, international development or other relevant field.
  • Established strong relationships with community members
  • Has no security issue to work and travel inside KRI locations
  • High standard of spoken and written English and Kurdish or Arabic.
  • Strong belief in human rights and gender equality
  • Good interpersonal skills including the ability to gain trust and build relationships
  • High standard of spoken and written Arabic and Kurdish; English strongly preferred
  • Previous experience at least one year working on Adolescent Girls Program and gender-based violence issues.
  • Ability to work in a stressful setting and adapt quickly to changing environments.
