Established in 1960, the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition is the world’s largest and most prestigious moot court, focused on Public International Law and simulating real cases before the International Court of Justice.

In partnership with the International Law Students Association (ILSA), SEED brings this global competition to Iraq – connecting Iraq’s law students to the world’s premier forum for public international law.

Each year, students from across Iraq compete in the Iraq National Rounds, sharpening their skills in legal research, written advocacy, oral argument, and professional ethics, while engaging directly with international legal standards and practice.

About the Iraqi National Rounds

Starting in 2026, SEED became the national host of the Iraq National Rounds – inviting universities from across the country to apply and compete.

Participating students strengthen:

  • Advanced legal research and writing
  • Public international law analysis
  • Oral advocacy and courtroom presentation
  • Teamwork, professionalism, and ethical practice

Participating internationally since 2005 and hosting national rounds since 2010, Jessup Iraq has given law students across Iraq and the Kurdistan Region sustained exposure to global legal advocacy and competition.
