‘Hane:Made Her Decision’
A story about overcoming the challenges of adolescence as a young woman in Kurdistan
Meet Hane, a young woman living in Kurdistan, as she embarks on a journey of self discovery, amid the many challenges of adolescence.
This book, written by Mofaq Arif Loni, and illustrated by Roza Zana, was developed by SEED Foundation, with the aim of providing young women and girls living in the Kurdistan Region with a role model. Hane’s journey highlights some of the key challenges facing young women as they are growing up in Kurdistan society, including: academic pressure, online violence, and complicated friendships, and offers lessons in how to overcome these issues with honesty, trust, and positive relationships. As Hane grapples with her situation, she learns to admit her mistakes, discovers the power of friendship, and the importance of the support of those who believe in her. This familiar tale demonstrates how the human spirit can overcome obstacles, to grow and thrive.
The themes highlighted in this book have been drawn from the SEED Girls Curriculum, an educational program developed by SEED foundation which aims to empower girls (aged 12-17 years) with the knowledge and skills they need to navigate the social barriers, risks, and challenges of adolescence in Kurdistan. SEED Girls fosters a sense of belonging and creates connection between peers to create a strong, supportive and confident community of future women leaders.
