SEED Statement on the Pope’s Historic First Visit to Iraq and the Kurdistan Region

SEED Foundation extends a warm welcome to Pope Francis on the auspicious occasion of the first ever papal visit to Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. On this historic day, we celebrate the global leadership of Pope Francis and commend him for using his platform to promote peace, interfaith collaboration, and service to the poor and oppressed. We recognize the symbolic significance of this event, not only for Christians, but for all ethno-religious minorities who have faced persecution and discrimination in Iraq. We believe that the papal visit will instill hope and foster resilience among persecuted Christian communities in Ninewa and beyond, while honoring the roots that many world religions share in this cradle of civilization. In this land of rich diversity, may what binds us prove stronger than what divides us; and may the world we build together be inclusive and representative of all.
